July 2021 Wrap Up + August TBR

Hi bookworms! 🐛 Welcome to my monthly wrap up for July and my August TBR. ❤

I went crazy with the manga, as I started reading it on my work computer and had plenty of down time at work. As you’ll see, I made my way through quite a few volumes this month.

I also reached my 2021 Reading Goal of reading 50 books! So far, I’ve read 69 books this year. Much of it is manga, and I’m considering raising my reading goal to 90 books, but that may be ambitious since I’ll be going back to school at the end of August.

With my June Wrap Up, I provided a short description and my thoughts of each book I read, but I’m planning to do reviews of the manga series I read in the future, so I’ll save my thoughts for those future blog posts. On this post, I’ll provide a couple sentences on my thoughts of the books or series.

Total books read: 29! 🔖

Total manga volumes read: 26 📚

Books Read in July 2021:

  1. The Incendiaries by R.O. Kwon – view the full review here 🌻

Personally I did not enjoy this book, and I detailed why in my review. Overall it was a pretty disappointing book and not one I would recommend to others.

2. A Pho Love Story by Loan Le – view the full review here 🌼

Despite the slow start, I loved this book! I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fun but meaningful read.

3. Orange Series by Ichigo Takano (6 total volumes, but 3 separate books) – view my review of the first three volumes here 🍊

This series is so bittersweet, and motivates you to live your life with no regrets. I was tearing up at work while reading it.

4. Ascendance of a Bookworm by Miya Kazuki and Suzuka – Volumes 4 + 5 📘

A fun series about a bookworm being transported to another world where there are no books. I loved the anime, so I’m reading the manga as a fun, lighthearted read.

5. Waiting for Spring by Anashin – Volumes 4-14 🌱

I absolutely love this series, it is my new favorite manga! I couldn’t stop reading, and I finished the series this month. Look forward to a series review from me ❤

6. What’s Not to Love by Emily Wibberley and Austin Siegemund-Broka 💌

An enemies to lovers tale between two academic overachievers. I found this book to be quite unrealistic, despite the fact that it is based on the two authors’ own relationship with each other. Not sure if I’ll write a full review on this book, if you’re interested, let me know!

7. Wotakoi: Love is Hard for an Otaku by Fujita – Volumes 3-10 🎮

Another manga series I adore and scrambled to catch up on this month. It’s a fun and sweet series, that is not too serious. All the nerdy references make me happy and makes my heart sing. I probably won’t review this series until the final volume is released this fall.

8. My Love Story!! by Kazune Kawahara and Aruko – Volumes 1 + 2 💐

My Love Story!! is one of my favorite animes. It’s an amazing romantic comedy series. Unfortunately, the anime did not animate all of the manga volumes (a common problem among shoujo series), so I want to read the manga to see how the story ends.

How’d I do with my July TBR?

Pretty okay! I read 2 of the 4 books on my July TBR. I tried to read The Magnolia Sword and could not get into it, so I returned it to the library. I just got my copy of The Betrayed from the library, so I was unable to read it in July.

How’d I do with my book buying ban?

Much better than I’d expected. The only books I bought were all of the Samantha American Girl books from Goodwill. It was a good find so I couldn’t give it up! I’m honestly shocked that I did not buy any other books this month. I’ve been volunteering at my local library weekly, so checking out a ton of books that I probably won’t finish seems to be satisfying my desire to collect books.

August Goals and TBR

As much as I should continue my book buying ban, my friends and I are going to San Diego and Los Angeles together, and we’ll be checking out bookstores. I know I won’t be able to resist! But I’m going to try my best not to buy any outside of the trip and books for school.

Here are the books I hope to read in August:

  1. The Betrayed by Kiera Cass
  2. Instant Karma by Marissa Meyer
  3. I Love You So Mochi by Sarah Kuhn
  4. Made in Korea by Sarah Suk
  5. Ariadne by Jennifer Saint
  6. Frankly in Love by David Yoon

All of these books I have checked out from the library, except for Frankly in Love. I’m trying to read more of the books I already own, but we’ll see how that goes as I keep checking out new books from the library every week!

How many books did you read in July? Have you read any of the books or series I read in July, and are you interested in reviews of any of them? What are you planning to read in August? Let me know!

See you next time!

All the love,

Tracy 💜
